Meat eater?

I was home a few weeks ago and captured these pics. My mom has several humming bird feeders on the backporch which bring dozens of little birds begging for sugar water. Along w/ the birds, you'll see lizards, large garden spiders, and an occasional praying mantis.
I thought all these creatures lived in harmony until I saw a praying mantis sneak under a feeder and grab a humming bird (OK...I actually didn't see the moment of capture, but did see it sneak up). I honestly didn't know praying mantis would go after something so large. I just assumed they ate plants or small bugs. Who knew?!
My mom wasn't too happy w/ it killing her humming birds so hopefully it enjoyed it's last meal. Awwwwww.
